A lifetime of changing lives

The love of kids has been a lifetime passion for this young 85 year old woman. She has always taught Sunday School, VBS and held most of us as babies in the nursery. She is an amazing woman.  What we love about our friend Hatie is that she remembers the names of a lot of the kids who have came through VBS.  She tells us stories of how Jimmy* became a missionary or how Susie* became a State Senator and how God has used all those kids to make a difference for God.

Hatie loves kids and the kids love her.  She takes the time to make sure each and every child knows the Bible story, knows their memory verse each day and has a Bible.  I can not begin to tell you how many Bibles she has given out all these years.  Her passion is to make sure each and every kid that she comes in contact with knows Jesus.  The kids can truly say they see Jesus in Hatie.

As each VBS has come and gone I look in awe at how Hatie has spent a lifetime making a difference in kids and families lives and how much I hope, just a little, that I can be more like her.  The stories of lives she has touched never cease to amaze me.  Hatie is a true servant and a true person that changes lives every day!

I sooo love these VBS stories! These people with a gift for reaching children are amazing, but the touch to children who may not be around the rest of the year is even more special to me.

It’s amazing what a huge impact those little things make! She sounds like a wonderful man I used to know named Calvin. When I graduated college, I was new to town and just went to the first church I could find on the corner. A friendly older gentleman met me at the back door, asked my name, and invited me in. On the way out, he gave me the biggest hug and said, “Thanks for coming, Karen. Hope to see you again soon!” I couldn’t believe he remembered my name. And he remembered it the next week, and the next! I ended up being part of that church for more than 10 years, and every time I think of being there, Calvin’s is the first face that comes to mind. I’m sure that many people look back the same way and think of your special friend! Thank God for people who take time for the small things. Calvin is home in Heaven now, and I’m sure God’s got him stationed at a gate, giving out hugs and inviting people in. :)
